When the first Portuguese arrived in Brazil, they didn't know that behind the beautiful beaches, and the splendid forest existed a dry and desert land. After they started to explore the hinterland, many cattle farms and small settlements were created, to colonize the interior of this big continent. The problems of water scarcity and the difficulty of farming created a massive population living in hunger and almost no opportunity to create income and leave these places. These places, named Sertões, created a different kind of cowboys, the "sertanejos" using leather clothes to walk between the spikes and dry bushes.
